David Wright 2013

I have had a desire to turn wood for many years after spending my life dealing and working with timber. I completed an apprenticeship as a boat builder on the river Hamble, followed by selling doors and windows in Yorkshire and finally working as a self employed joiner in the building trade, which I am no longer involved in.

I now enjoy the art of woodturning. I love the natural product of timber and all its different features and feel woodturning enhances these qualities, you never know exactly what a piece of timber is hiding until you are in the process of turning it.

I am specifically interested in English hardwoods sourced from local suppliers. This is my second year turning wood.

At the moment I am working mainly  on turning small bowls and plates plus various small chopping boards and pinch pots all of which have a functional use. I am very keen on turning out a first class product and seeing the product exude its characteristics and features.

I am still fairly new to this art and have a lot to learn but despite this have found a natural ability to create a high class product, the journey so far has been very exiting and I am looking forwards to the future with new thoughts and ideas developing as I get more involved.
