Kathy Hammond

Having recently completed an MA in Printmaking, I create images using drawing, painting, print methods, photography, textiles and mixed media.

I take inspiration from the landscape and from natural and man – made forms.

Some artwork on show will be that created from research of some elements from the past and present of the Washburn Valley. This includes ‘traces’ from the valley and in it I try to capture a story from the valley having had a large and thriving textile industry in the 1600s and the subsequent building of the reservoirs -Swinsty (1876), Fewston (1879), Lindley Wood-(1875), and Thruscross (commenced 1966), flooding over 3 mills, and derelict houses, which were deserted by the migrating skilled textile population to neighbouring and enlarging towns/cities.

Other art work includes editioned prints, painting, photographs and textiles.

I have exhibited my art work in solo and group art exhibitions, in galleries such as the Dean Clough Gallery, Halifax; the Mercer Gallery, Harrogate; the City Gallery, Leicester; the Manchester Art Book Fair; The International Contemporary Art Book Fair; The Yorkshire Craft Centre, Bradford; South Square, Thornton; The Heritage Centre, Fewston; Fountains Hall, Fountains Abbey, and at other venues.

I work to commission and having had a long and successful teaching career in art and design, I now run local art workshops and art study days.
