Melanie Wilks 2013

I am a sculptor who specializes in the carving of stone. I have a BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art from Portsmouth University and an MA in Fine Art from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Over a career spanning more than 20 years I have completed many publicly commissioned sculptures carved from Yorkshire sandstone, notably the Miner and Weaver statues that stand outside Morley Town Hall, the Animal Memorial Sculpture in Dartmouth Park, the Water Nymph Sculpture in Churwell Park, the Ernie Wise sculpture and a series of six Mosaics set in stone at Woodkirk.

Although in the past my sculpture has been figurative and has appeared representational in style, lately, I have taken my inspiration from nature and the pieces have taken on a more abstracted form.
